Oceanside officials are pondering the idea of creating a dog beach in the city.  This is of course encouraging news for both the furry footed and their two-legged best friends.  The area in question is an isolated stretch of beach just south of the San Luis Rey River mouth and it would be a great spot for dogs and people to scamper happily through the rolling waves.  The closest beach for Oceanside residents is in Del Mar, which is a good twenty minutes south on Highway 101.

As a dog owner myself, I can appreciate the proposition of such a beach, as the long stretch of sand and the rolling waves provide a large playground for our energetic little pets.  In a recent trip to Del Mar dog beach, my lab-beagle mix, Gorbie found a playmate in Sadie, the border collie pit bull mix.  He also found out that he can swim and then roll in heaps of sand to turn himself into a sand monster.  Upon our return home and after a good scrubbing in the shower, Gorbie, who prides himself on being an ankle biting, sock stealing and maniac sprinter, settled on his favorite cushion on the couch and went to sleep.  Incidentally, so did I.
